We have a winner! In cinematic celebration of the DVD release of "Definitely, Maybe," (a film by the makers of "Love, Actually" and "Notting Hill") we asked for your proposal stories. Jodi of St. Louis, MO. is our winner with her story:
It was Valentines Day 1987. Kevin and I had agreed no gifts--we just had both bought new cars and moved into an apartment but we would go out to dinner.
I was at work when I received a delivery of flowers and my favorite Fanny May fudge balls. In a panic I left work went to mall and secured a simple gift in return--so much for the no gift rule.
In my haste I "lost" my car in the parking lot of the mall and wandered aimlessly for 30 minutes. I was feeling anxious because I was aware my inability to remember what my new car looked like would make us late for our dinner reservations.
We managed to get to Union Station on time for our 7pm reservation at the Oyster Company; they however had over booked. We walked around and walked around at nine o'clock still no table ready. So we went outside to the pond area where Kevin decided we should make wishes with pennies. His instruction was to turn my back to
the pond, close my eyes and toss the penny over my shoulder; stating my wish out loud. So I did. I wished we would get married some day. When I opened my eyes there he stood silhouette by the moonlight with a ring box open. It was totally
unexpected, I was in a state of surprise like none other. We had hardly discussed marriage other than his simple, nonchalant question months earlier of, "you want to marry me someday, don't you?" I was stupefied, and of course said yes.
(I later learned Kevin walked around all night with the ring box taped to his ankle and decided to propose before dinner so he could relinquish the box from his ankle and restore blood flow.)
Here I am, we are twenty-one years later. Still wearing my sparkly one-carat diamond ring--just in a different setting.
Congratulations, Jodi! And many more anniversaries to share!
